Global Uplift (USA), a non-profit
corporation managed in the U.S. by Mr. Shah
(son of Late H.E. K.K. Shah, Former Governor
of (Madras)Tamil Nadu) has extended Relief aid
of approximately $100,000 (Rs.45 Lakhs)to specific
target villages of Akkaraipettai and Nagapattinam,
providing temporary shelters for 162 families.
a medical unit, Police Outpost, Fire and Rescue
Services Shelters. At Akkaraipettai where the
Tsunami had caused great loss and life and severe
damage, a substantial portion of Global Uplift’s
funds have been applied to repair of the worst
damage of portions of that school.
The Global Uplift representative met with the
Chairman of the Nagapattinam Panchayat(Council)
Union, the President of Akkaraipettai Panchayat
and the village head and people of Akkaraipettai
all of whom desired the relief work be concentrated
in custom’s land allocated on January
18, 2005 by the Collector Nagapattinam In a
record time of only twelve days, 162 Temporary
shelter and other infrastructure facilities
were provided by Global Uplift by dint of day
and night work!
In a function organized on Sunday January 30,
2005. From Salinas, California Eric and Rev.
Martin came to do the relief effort for Global
Uplift and shelters were handed over.
In today’s function Mr. John Schoch a
Dairy Expert from California representing Global
Uplift was present. He has been actively working
in the field for the past few days along with
other volunteers. He consoled the affected villagers
individually.
Mr. Umanath thanked all sections of the Government
Department and other individuals, Panchayat
officials for their co-operation and exposed
the people of Akkaraipetti to live in a spirit
of co-operation, irrespective of Caste, Creed
and Religion and Political affiliations .
The Sub Collector Umanath. I.A.S handed over
keys of the shelter to the occupants and distributed
free provisions to the families organized by
Global Uplift. The Sub Collector assured the
villagers the readiness of the Government to
look after their needs in totality and requested
the NGO's to extend their co-operation.
Mr.Umanath thanked in particular Mr. Shah for
his generous timely help and forethought undertaking
Relief Work.
The function was well organized
and well attended and the local fishermen thanked
the efforts of Global Uplift and thanked people
in America for their timely help and prayed
to God to bless all the donors and their families
for their act of charity.
